Rob Parkyn graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1975 and trained in Adelaide in surgery attaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1984. Training was undertaken during this time in Bath, UK, and post Fellowship training in Breast and Endocrine Surgery in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK.
He was appointed as a Senior Visiting Surgeon at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1986 and continues there as Director of Endocrine Surgery on the Breast and Endocrine Surgical Unit. He was also previously appointed to BreastScreen SA for over 10 years.
In 2009 he was conferred the title of Clinical Associate Professor by the University of Adelaide.
Rob Parkyn has been active in research and development in Endocrine Surgery particularly in the areas of Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy and Surgeon Performed Ultrasonography. He has contributed extensively to International Teaching in Breast and Endocrine Surgery, particularly in Asia and is Past President of the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons. He is currently on the Executive of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons and established and is current Chair of “INTEREST”, an outreach program of the IAES, sending endocrine surgical teams around the world teaching and operating in the third world.
His particular interest is Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery including Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy, Surgical Ultrasonography and Diseases of the Breast.
